Description
This Write the Room activity is designed to help French Immersion learners strengthen their decoding skills through movement, engagement, and meaningful phonics practice. Students search the classroom for word cards featuring the sound <o> ouvert et fermé, read each word, and then draw a picture to show their understanding—connecting decoding with comprehension in an authentic, student-friendly way.
The resource includes 54 word cards (27 decodable words), provided in two versions: a typical version and a version with greyed-out silent letters to support orthographic mapping. This makes it easy to adapt the activity for a variety of learners and developmental stages.
Clear visual instructions help students work independently, making this activity perfect for literacy centres, rotations, small groups, or early-finishers. It aligns with the Science of Reading and offers a simple, effective way to reinforce accurate sound-symbol correspondence.
